Overview
Google SAML is a widely-used authentication protocol that allows users to log in to multiple applications with a single set of credentials. It centralises user authentication and authorisation, reducing the need for multiple passwords and improving the overall user experience.
Google SAML also ensures secure access by allowing only authorised individuals to access company resources.
By integrating with Google SAML, companies can save time, enhance security, and streamline their team’s login experience—making this a popular option for organisations using Tapt Teams.
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Create a Google SAML app for SSO
In Google Workspace Admin Console, go to Apps > Web and mobile apps.
Select Add app.
Select Add custom SAML app.
In the App name field, enter a name to identify the SAML app (we recommend including “Tapt” in the name).
Then select Continue.
Step 2: Add your Tapt service provider details into Google
This step involves entering Tapt's service provider details from your dashboard into Google.
In your Tapt Dashboard, navigate to Settings > Integrations > Single Sign-On (SAML).
Locate and copy the Entity ID and Reply URL.
In the Google SAML setup, paste these values into the corresponding fields.
Step 3: Attribute mapping and enable Google app
Add the following attributes to the attribute mapping section.
Ensure that each attribute is mapped correctly—spelling and formatting must be exact.
Complete the setup and save your changes.
Step 4: Upload Metadata and Enable SSO in Tapt
Download the Metadata XML file from the Google SAML app you just created.
Return to Tapt and upload the file in Settings > Integrations > Single Sign-On (SAML).
Toggle on SSO in Tapt.
Contact Tapt Support to verify and complete the setup.
Step 5: Enable Google app
In Google Workspace Admin Console, go to Apps > Web and mobile apps.
Select your newly created SAML app.
Click User access.
Enable the app—most companies do not turn it ON for everyone, you can follow Google’s documentation to enable it for specific organisational units if needed.
Logging in with SAML
Once setup is complete, you can log in using SSO:
On the login screen, select SSO.
Enter your email address.
Follow the prompts to complete login via Google.
