If you’re in an area where you don’t know if you’re going to have sufficient internet coverage to utilise the Tapt app, don’t worry! We have a solution for this.

You can follow the below steps to turn on ‘Offline Sharing’ for your Tapt QR code:

  1. Download the Tapt App from the Apple Store or Google Playstore.

  2. Log into your Tapt Digital Profile using the prompts.

  3. Navigate to the ‘Share’ tab on the Tapt app.

  4. From here, you’ll be able to turn on the ‘Share Offline’ feature. You’ll notice that this will immediately change the way the QR code on your Tapt App looks! This means that the feature has successfully switched on.

We encourage you to turn on this feature in advance of arriving somewhere that you think you may be without a good Internet connection.

Top Tip: If you're going to be using your card at a conference or a similar large scale event, it's a good idea to turn on this feature as a backup option, just in case something goes wrong with the Internet connection at the event!

With the above feature turned on, when your new connection scans the QR code with their phone, it won’t attempt to open the Tapt App, or a web browser. Instead, it will immediately move to open a ‘Save New Contact’ form in their phone, so that they can create a new contact with all of your information.

Unfortunately, using your Tapt card offline only allows you to provide your contact information to a recipient, and at this stage, does not allow you to receive information back from them. We encourage you to revisit any offline connections at a later stage to ensure you’re not missing out on this crucial two-way exchange opportunity.

When it comes to tapping your card on a new connection’s phone, this is also trickier when you’re in a spot with a bad Internet connection. This is because NFC technology does not work without an Internet connection. When you tap someone’s phone, the NFC technology attempts to open either the Tapt App (if you both have it downloaded) or a web browser (if your recipient doesn’t have the Tapt App). Without a connection, niether of these options will work. However, with the sharing offline option, you’ll always be able to make sure that your new connections have your details ready to go through the use of the QR code!
