Best Practices:
Tapt elevates traditional networking by moving beyond the one-way exchange of paper business cards. Our innovative 2-way Contact Exchange transforms networking into a powerful, effortless experience.
At Tapt, our philosophy is simple: sharing your contact details is important, but receiving others' contact details is even better. This way, you take the initiative to reach out, rather than waiting endlessly for them to do so.
Types of Contact Exchange Experiences:
We understand that clients have different requirements and purposes when it comes to using contact exchange. For this reason, we have designed two different contact exchange experiences:
Lead Generation: Send your contact details to your new connection and request their details in return.
Sharing Only: Send your contact details and profile to your new connection without requesting their information in return.
Option 1 - Lead Generation
This user flow is best suited for organisations looking to capture their contact details in return. Your new connections can opt out of providing details back, and only save the information to their device. However, the new experience is designed to encourage the 2-way exchange of information.
Note: The contact exchange experience must be toggled on (see image below). This can be done via the platform in 'edit profile'. Learn more here.
How it works:
Open the profile & click ‘Connect’.
Save contact details.
There are two ways in which your connection can save your contact (see methods below). Regardless of which method they choose to do first, they can save the other way after.Share details back via form.
See further information below.
Save Contact Detail Method 1 - Inputting their email (recommended).
Your connection will receive an email with your profile and a VCF file (containing your contact details at the time of the exchange).
Note: You will not receive this email. The only information you will receive is contact details collected on the two-way exchange form (which will be emailed to you & added to your Tapt app contacts list).
Save Contact Detail: Method 2 - Saving your details directly to their device.
A VCF file will be downloaded.
Your connection must open the file, which will open in their native contact list (redirected out of your profile/browser).
They will then need to save the contact (a video explaining this will appear before the download begins).
You will need to encourage your connection to return to their browser to continue the contact exchange experience. You will not receive their contact information in this step.
Share details back
The user will then be able to share their details with you via a two-way exchange form that will appear.
Should the user choose to input their email, a form will then appear (with their email already pre-filled). They must then input their name and can provide any other option information that you customised in your form.
The information that is shared back with you will be sent to three places:
You'll receive an email with their contact details.
The contact will appear on your dashboard.
The contact will be accessible in the Tapt app.
Option 2 - Sharing Only:
If you opt out of including a form to request details back, your connections will only be able to receive your profile & contact via email and/or save your contact details to their device. They will be unable to share their contact information back with you.
Note: The contact exchange experience must be toggled off (see image below). This can be done via the platform in 'edit profile'. Learn more here.

Unable to Save Contacts from Outlook Email?
In some cases, Outlook emails may block the VCF file from being downloaded and added to your contacts. Your employer's IT team often imposes this restriction. To overcome this, we recommend you download the Tapt app and save the contact via the app.
