Compatible phones and where to tap each device

Check whether a phone supports NFC and find the usual reading area for iPhone and Android devices.

Tapt physical products work with smartphones that can read near-field communication (NFC). If a phone does not support NFC, scan the product's QR code instead.


Check whether a phone supports NFC

Most current smartphones include NFC, but availability can vary by model, region and device settings.

  • iPhone: iPhone XR and later models can read NFC in the background. Some earlier NFC-capable iPhones may require the NFC reader from Control Centre.

  • Android: Search the phone's settings for `NFC`. If the setting is available, turn it on before tapping.

The receiving phone should be unlocked before you try to share.

Note: Device software and manufacturer settings can change. Use the phone manufacturer's current specifications when you need to confirm a particular model.


Where to tap an iPhone

Hold the Tapt product near the top edge of the iPhone, close to the rear camera area. Keep it still for 3–5 seconds, then open the notification that appears.


Where to tap an Android phone

Hold the Tapt product against the back of the phone. Start near the centre, then try the upper rear area if the phone does not respond.

NFC reader placement varies between Android models. Check the manufacturer's guide if neither position works.


Improve NFC detection

  • Remove thick, metal or magnetic cases and accessories.

  • Keep the Tapt product still while the phone reads it.

  • Move the product away before trying again.

  • Check that the phone is unlocked and NFC is turned on.

  • Test with another NFC-enabled phone to isolate a device-specific issue.


Use the QR code instead

Open the phone's camera and scan the QR code printed on the Tapt product. The same linked profile or destination should open without NFC.
