Scan business cards, event badges and profile QR codes with the Tapt App

Create a contact by scanning a paper business card, printed event badge or digital-profile QR code, including LinkedIn.

Use the Tapt App scanner to collect contact details from paper business cards, printed event badges and digital-profile QR codes, including LinkedIn. After scanning, open the contact in Contacts and check the captured details.

Scan a paper business card

  1. Open the Tapt App.

  2. Select the scanner icon at the bottom of the screen.

  3. Bring the business card into the camera's view.

  4. Select the scan button.

  5. Open the new contact and check the details against the card.

Keep the card flat and the printed text in focus. Adjust the lighting or angle if glare makes the details difficult to read.

Scan an event badge

  1. Open the scanner in the Tapt App.

  2. Bring the badge's printed details into the camera's view.

  3. Capture the badge using the scanning control.

  4. Open the contact and check the details against the badge.

Ask the person to hold the badge still. If a plastic sleeve causes glare, adjust the angle or lighting before scanning again.

This method reads the badge's printed text. The information captured depends on what is printed on the badge. A QR code on the badge may contain different information.

Scan a digital profile or LinkedIn QR code

  1. Open the scanner in the Tapt App.

  2. Bring the other person's profile QR code into the camera's view.

  3. Follow the scanning prompts.

  4. Open the captured contact and check the details.

Make sure the whole code is visible and in focus.

Check and complete the contact

Compare names, email addresses and phone numbers with the original card, badge or profile before using them.

If details are missing, ask the person for them or enrich the contact to look for additional information. Check that any enrichment result matches the person you met.

From Contacts, select Add Note to record your conversation and any follow-up actions.

Scanning creates a contact in Tapt. To add it to your phone's address book, open the contact and complete your phone's save process.

If a scan does not create the expected contact

Check that the whole card, printed badge details or QR code is visible and in focus. Adjust the lighting or angle, then try again.

If a profile QR code still does not work, ask the person for their profile link or contact details.
